Arkansas Real Estate Commission (AREC)

The body that enforces Arkansas's Real Estate License Law (Ark. Code Title 17, Chapter 42) and adopts rules now published at 17 CAR Part 220. It has five members appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate: three licensees with at least five years of licensure and two public members, one representing consumers and one age 60 or older representing the elderly. Terms are three years. AREC adopts rules, issues subpoenas, publishes names of sanctioned persons, and holds disciplinary hearings.

Exam tip
Memory aid 5-3-2-3: five members, three licensees, two public members, three-year terms. Public members vote on everything but do not grade exams.
Example
A 64-year-old retired teacher on the Commission offers to help score the state exam. She cannot, because public members are barred from grading examinations.
