Florida Real Estate Commission (FREC)
The seven-member commission that adopts rules (Chapter 61J2, F.A.C.), sets standards, disciplines licensees, and regulates real estate schools and instructors under Chapter 475, Part I. Members are appointed by the Governor, confirmed by the Senate, and serve four-year terms: four brokers with five years of active licensure, one broker or sales associate with two years, and two consumer members who have never been licensed; at least one member must be 60 or older. It works within DBPR, with support from the Division of Real Estate.
- Exam tip
- '4-1-2, and one is 60.' A retired broker cannot fill a consumer seat, because consumer members can never have been licensees.
- Example
- A consumer files a complaint against a sales associate. DBPR investigates, a FREC probable cause panel decides whether to file a formal complaint, and FREC decides the penalty.
