Georgia Real Estate Commission (GREC)
The six-member body that administers Georgia's License Law (O.C.G.A. Title 43, Chapter 40) and its rules in Chapter 520-1. Members are appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate to five-year terms: five licensees with at least five years of Georgia residency and active practice, and one consumer-protection member with no industry ties. GREC licenses salespersons, associate brokers, brokers, and community association managers, approves schools, audits trust accounts, investigates complaints, and imposes discipline.
- Exam tip
- '6-5-5-1': six commissioners, five-year terms, five years of experience for industry seats, one consumer member. Unlicensed practice is a misdemeanor.
- Example
- An unlicensed handyman offers to find a buyer for 2% of the price. That is brokerage for another for a fee, so he needs a GREC license.
