Iowa Real Estate Commission

The body that licenses Iowa salespersons and brokers under Iowa Code chapter 543B, operating within the Department of Inspections, Appeals, and Licensing. Its rules, formerly cited as 193E, were moved in 2026 to 481 IAC chapters 2001-2022. An applicant must be at least 18, pass both PSI exam portions, and file a complete application by the last business day of the sixth calendar month after the qualifying exam. A salesperson needs a sponsoring broker's certification and cannot receive an original license on inactive status.

Exam tip
'18 to apply, 90 to test, 6 months to file.' The six-month window runs from the qualifying exam date, not course completion.
Example
A candidate passes on March 10. Her application is due by the last business day of September, moving back to Friday if September 30 falls on a weekend.
