Kentucky Real Estate Transfer Tax
Kentucky's tax on recorded deeds under KRS 142.050: 50 cents per $500 of value or fraction thereof, paid by the grantor (seller). Partial $500 units are rounded up before multiplying. It works out to $1.00 per $1,000 of value and appears as a seller debit on the closing statement.
- Exam tip
- Round up any fraction of $500 before multiplying, and charge the grantor, not the buyer.
- Example
- On a $200,250 sale the seller pays for 401 units of $500 (rounding up): 401 x $0.50 = $200.50.
