Kentucky Real Estate Commission (KREC)
The Kentucky agency, organized under KRS 324.281, that licenses sales associates and brokers, audits principal brokers' escrow accounts, hears complaints and imposes discipline, and runs the Real Estate Education, Research and Recovery Fund. It has seven members appointed by the Governor: six licensees with ten years of Kentucky residency and ten years of active licensure, and one citizen-at-large member. Terms are three years.
- Exam tip
- Expect 'seven members, Governor appoints, three-year terms, one citizen at large'. Do not mix up Kentucky's numbers with neighboring states' commissions.
- Example
- A consumer believes a sales associate committed fraud; she files a sworn complaint with KREC, which can hold a hearing and order sanctions.
