Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA)

The Michigan state department that runs real estate licensing under Article 25 of the Occupational Code. LARA processes applications, investigates complaints and maintains the online license lookup. Article 25 also creates the Board of Real Estate Brokers and Salespersons (MCL 339.2502), which participates in rulemaking and disciplinary decisions. Michigan licenses run on a three-year cycle tied to each licensee's issue date.

Exam tip
LARA administers and investigates; the Board participates in rules and discipline. Questions may ask whom a broker must notify when moving an office (LARA).
Example
A broker relocates her office without notifying LARA; that failure is a listed ground for discipline.
