Ohio Real Estate Commission

The Ohio Real Estate Commission is the policy and disciplinary board for Ohio brokerage. It adopts rules in Ohio Administrative Code 1301:5, hears appeals of disciplinary matters, and decides sanctions. It has five members appointed by the governor with Senate consent: four who were licensed Ohio brokers for the ten years before appointment and one public member, serving five-year terms. Day-to-day work such as licensing, complaints, investigations, and the Recovery Fund is handled by the Division of Real Estate and Professional Licensing under the superintendent.

Exam tip
Memorize 5-4-1-10-5: five members, four brokers, one public member, ten years as a broker, five-year terms. The Division does the paperwork and investigations; the Commission makes rules and decides discipline.
Example
A complaint against an Ohio salesperson is received and investigated by the Division; if a hearing leads to sanctions, the Commission decides the discipline.
