A week before
Confirm the exam appointment, testing location or remote-testing requirements, name on registration, identification rules and rescheduling deadline in the official candidate handbook. Do not assume one state’s rules apply elsewhere.
The day before
Review allowed calculator models and prohibited items. Prepare the required identification and confirmation. Plan your travel or test your remote setup. Get rest rather than trying to learn an entire topic overnight.
At check-in
Follow the handbook’s arrival and check-in instructions. Ask staff about any testing accommodation already approved. Leave prohibited materials outside the testing area as directed. The provider decides what is permitted.
During the exam
Read the task carefully, check units in math problems and keep track of time. Use permitted review tools when offered. Do not assume unanswered, flagged or unscored items are handled identically across providers.
Afterward
Follow the score report and regulator’s next steps. Passing an exam is not the same as receiving a license: application, background review, sponsorship and fees may still apply. If a retake is needed, use the report to guide honest review.
Independent study guidance, not legal advice. Verify current requirements with your regulator.
