IDFPR (Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation)

The Illinois agency that, through its Division of Real Estate, administers the Real Estate License Act of 2000 (225 ILCS 454) and rules at 68 Ill. Adm. Code 1450. It issues licenses, approves education, investigates complaints, and imposes discipline, advised by a Real Estate Administration and Disciplinary Board. Illinois license categories are broker (the entry-level license, replacing 'salesperson'), managing broker, and residential leasing agent. Every broker and leasing agent must be sponsored by a sponsoring broker.

Exam tip
Illinois no longer uses the title 'salesperson'; the entry-level license is 'broker.' Supervising an office requires a managing broker license.
Example
An unlicensed brother puts a 'For Sale' sign on his sister's building expecting 2% of the price. He is not the owner and fits no exemption, so he needs an IDFPR license.
