Indiana Broker License Statuses
IPLA recognizes four Indiana broker statuses. Active brokers are assigned to a broker company and may perform any licensed act. Unassigned brokers are licensed but may not practice until assigned, though CE is still required. Inactive brokers may not perform licensed acts and need no CE but pay fees. Referral status, based on a CE waiver, lets a broker affiliated with a managing broker only refer prospects for a fee paid through the company. A departing broker files reassignment within five business days, and listings belong to the company.
- Exam tip
- A-U-I-R runs from most to least activity. Referral status means referrals only: no listing, showing, or negotiating.
- Example
- A broker leaves her firm Monday and must file reassignment by the following Monday. Her ten listings stay with the old company because her contract says nothing different.
