Kansas Real Estate Commission (KREC)

The state agency, created by K.S.A. 74-4201 through 74-4206, that licenses and disciplines Kansas brokers and salespersons. It has five members, all appointed by the governor, serving four-year terms. KREC issues and reinstates licenses, approves education, adopts the K.A.R. 86 rules, audits trust accounts, investigates complaints, holds hearings, imposes discipline, and administers the Real Estate Recovery Revolving Fund.

Exam tip
Know the numbers: five members and a four-year term. Wrong choices borrow other states' commission sizes or confuse the term with the five-year residency and broker-experience rules.
Example
A buyer complains that a salesperson kept her earnest money; the complaint goes to KREC, which can investigate, hold a hearing and fine, suspend or revoke the license.
