Minnesota Department of Commerce
The state agency that licenses, investigates and disciplines Minnesota real estate licensees under Minnesota Statutes chapter 82. Its powers are exercised by the commissioner of commerce or a designee, with general enforcement tools drawn from chapter 45, which applies across all industries Commerce regulates. Minnesota has no separate real estate commission of industry members. The PSI exam is given for the Department, and passing requires 75 percent on both the uniform and state portions.
- Exam tip
- The regulator is the Department of Commerce and its commissioner; any answer naming a 'Minnesota Real Estate Commission' is wrong.
- Example
- A consumer complains that a salesperson misrepresented a property; the commissioner of commerce investigates and can impose discipline under chapters 82 and 45.
