Mississippi Real Estate Commission (MREC)
The Mississippi agency that administers the Real Estate Brokers License Law of 1954 (Miss. Code Ann. §73-35-1 et seq.). It has five members: one from each of the three Supreme Court Districts plus two at-large members, appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate for four-year terms. Each must be a Mississippi resident and citizen for at least six years and a broker for at least five years. MREC also sets the structure of the Property Condition Disclosure Statement.
- Exam tip
- Mississippi's seats track Supreme Court Districts, not congressional districts; many students guess wrong.
- Example
- A buyer alleges substantial misrepresentation by a salesperson; MREC may refuse, suspend or revoke the license after a hearing under §73-35-23.
