Oregon Real Estate Agency (OREA)

The Oregon Real Estate Agency, based in Salem, is the state regulator for brokerage under ORS Chapter 696. It is led by the Real Estate Commissioner, who issues licenses, adopts rules in OAR Chapter 863, investigates complaints, and imposes discipline. Within the agency sits the Real Estate Board: nine members appointed by the Governor for four-year terms, seven of whom must have five years of active Oregon real estate experience and two of whom are public members. Oregon licenses only individuals, never companies.

Exam tip
Memorize 9-7-2-4-5 for the Board. A distractor may treat a business entity as the licensee; in Oregon only individuals are licensed, and a company operates through a registered business name.
Example
A Portland brokerage firm cannot itself hold a license; its principal broker registers the business name and the individual brokers hold the licenses.
