Brokerage Relationships in Real Estate Transactions Act (BRRETA)

The Kansas statute, K.S.A. 58-30,101 through 58-30,113, that defines the relationships a licensee may have with buyers, sellers, landlords and tenants and the duties owed in each. BRRETA recognizes seller's and landlord's agents, buyer's and tenant's agents, designated agents and transaction brokers, prohibits dual agency, and requires the brokerage relationships brochure and relationship disclosure in sales contracts. It is the most heavily weighted area of the Kansas state exam.

Exam tip
Keep the three laws straight: the license act (58-3034 to 58-3086), BRRETA (58-30,101 et seq.) for agency, and 74-4201 et seq. for the Commission itself.
Example
A question asks which Kansas law sets the duties of a buyer's agent; the answer is BRRETA, not the license act.
